Our campus in Kota Damansara includes state-of-the-art facilities such as our eye care centre named SEGi Eye Care which allows students to study optometry in a real world setting and to gain practical experience using the latest specialised equipment. The programme emphasizes clinical practice and offers an excellent integrated, professional and scientific education in optometry. Clinical placements also occur in hospital eye departments, private optometry/ophthalmology practices and Centre for the Blind. These will let you apply the knowledge and skills you gain during your course prior to starting your career in optometry in Malaysia or abroad. The SEGi 4-Year Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) is set to be the optometry programme in the country for maximum student satisfaction. It provides you with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills needed to become a qualified optometrist. The first year will develop your knowledge of the basic scientific principles that underpin optometry. These skills will be developed in your second year, providing you with the skills and knowledge to conduct a full eye examination routine. You will go on to study the biological links between eye and brain and gain further skills in contact lens fitting, optical instrumentation and research methods. Independent clinical and scientific skills will be developed in the final years of the programme. You will examine patients in our public service clinics and pursue an area of particular personal interest in more depth through a final year research/dissertation study.
