It was a dark and stormy afternoon on 30 October 2011; a perfect environment for a scary Halloween ghost story. But in Straits Quay, Seri Tanjung Pinang, the stage was set for a Halloween Pumpkin Carving Competition.

The lights were bright and the gloomy spell was broken with the cheerful mood of students eager to sink their knives into the innocent pumpkins. The Competition was hosted by E&O Trading Sdn.Bhd in conjunction with the company’s ‘Halloween by the Beach’ celebration.

Participants formed two to a team. Four vocational students from SEGi College Penang competed against 10 other teams consisting of private and individual entrants. Leong Chen Sing, Looi Xiang Lin, Ng Min Zhu and Cheng Zhi Kuan are currently taking the Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Penyediaan Makanan (Malaysia Certificate in Food Preparation) at the College.

Chen Sing and Xiang Lin were announced champions and won RM1000 worth of cash vouchers while Ng Min Zhu and Cheng Zhi Kuan took fourth place. The students showcased their creativity and talents via the various features and images carved on the pumpkins.
